Despite the numerical disadvantage, Manchester City remained composed and continued to probe the Forest defense. In the 71st minute, their patience was rewarded when substitute Erling Haaland rose highest to meet a cross from Kevin De Bruyne and power a header past Dean Henderson to give the visitors the lead.

The goal visibly lifted Manchester City, and they controlled possession for much of the remaining time. Haaland nearly added a second goal in the dying minutes, but his shot from inside the area was well saved by Henderson.

After the match, Guardiola praised his team's resilience and determination.
